Modi, who chaired his twentieth interaction through PRAGATI (Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation) platform, began with a review of the situation caused by flood and other natural calamities in the northeastern states and assured all possible help from the Central government. The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

He also urged the Central Public Works Department to encourage all vendors to come aboard the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) platform, a paperless and cashless system to enable procurement of common use goods and services with minimal human interface.

"The Prime Minister urged all Chief Secretaries to work expeditiously towards ensuring that all traders register under the GST regime, and this task is completed before August 15," a PMO release said. The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

Yellen Remains The Driver And The Focus In Markets-The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

Global markets (The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions)

Global stock markets were shored up Thursday by suggestions from Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen that the central bank may slow the pace of its interest rate increases if inflation remains relatively subdued. The dollar recovered its poise after stuttering in the wake of Yellen's remarks. The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions
KEEPING SCORE: In Europe, the CAC 40 in France was up 0.5 percent at 5,249 while Germany's DAX rose 0.1 percent to 12,632. The FTSE 100 index of leading British shares was flat at 7,418. U.S. stocks were poised for a steady open too with Dow futures and the broader S&P 500 futures up 0.1 percent.
FED TALK: Yellen's comments to Congress assuaged concerns among some traders that the Fed was raising interest rates too quickly in the face of stalling inflation and sluggish U.S. economic growth of just 1.4 percent in the first quarter. Many economists believe the Fed, which has raised rates three times since December, will increase rates one more time this year. "Monetary policy is not on a pre-set course," Yellen told lawmakers on the House Financial Services Committee. "We're watching it very closely and stand ready to adjust our policy if it appears that the inflation under-shoot will be persistent." The comments pushed the Dow up 0.6 percent to 21,532.14, a record high, but weighed on the dollar as traders priced in the potential for rates not to rise as rapidly as previously thought. She is due to address a Senate committee on Thursday too but observers don't expect anything more dramatic to emerge.
ANALYST TAKE: "The question now is whether Yellen reiterates the point in today's testimony, adds further color to it or possibly backtracks on it," said Craig Erlam, senior market analyst at OANDA.
CHINA TRADE: Chinese trade growth accelerated for a second month in June in a positive sign for global demand and the world's No. 2 economy. Exports rose 11.3 percent to $196.6 billion in June, up from May's 8.7 percent rate, and imports gained 17.2 percent to $153.8 billion, up from the previous month's 14.8 percent growth. The unexpectedly strong export demand could help to support growth that is forecast to weaken as Beijing tightens bank lending controls to reduce the risks of rising debt.
ASIA'S DAY: Japan's Nikkei 225 stock index was flat at 20,099.81 and Hong Kong's Hang Seng index jumped 1.2 percent to 26,345.27. The Shanghai Composite index climbed 0.6 percent at 3,218.16 and the S&P ASX 200 advanced 1.1 percent to 5,736.80. South Korea's Kospi gained 0.7 percent to 2,409.49. Shares in Southeast Asia and Taiwan were mostly higher. The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions
ENERGY: Benchmark U.S. crude fell 31 cents to $45.18 per barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Brent crude, used to price international oils, fell 30 cents to $47.44 per barrel.

CURRENCIES: The euro fell 0.1 percent to $1.14 while the dollar was down 0.1 percent at 113.09 yen.The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

Major Indices (The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions)
Expectations of robust quarterly results, along with buying in energy sector stocks pushed the Indian equity markets higher on Wednesday. According to market observers, gains were capped due to investors' reluctance to further invest in expensive market conditions and caution over the upcoming macro-economic inflation and industrial production data points.

Key Indian equity indices were trading flat in the afternoon session on Wednesday. India's annual retail inflation eased to a record low of 1.54% during June, while the country's factory output growth also slowed to 1.7% in May, official data showed on Wednesday. As per data released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) on Consumer Price Index (CPI), retail inflation was dragged lower by a sharp fall in prices of food items like pulses, vegetables and other perishables. The current inflation rate is the lowest since the series began in 2012. The June retail inflation rate fell when compared with May, when it prevailed at a higher rate of 2.18%. On a year-on-year (YoY) basis, the country's June retail inflation was lower from 5.77% CPI rate reported for the corresponding month of last year. The other key macro-economic data -- Index of Industrial Production (IIP) -- released by the CSO showed that on a sequential basis, the output rose slower than the revised estimates for April 2017. The growth estimates for April 2017 were revised to 2.79% from 3.1%.

Provisional data with the exchanges showed that foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought stocks worth Rs 361.25 crore while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) divested Rs330.58 crore. Hindustan Unilever, ONGC, ACC and Bharti Infratel gained the most on both indices, while Mahindra and Mahindra as well as TCS were the top losers. Oil and gas sector's stocks gained the most followed by auto, telecom, bank, capital goods, whereas IT (information technology) stocks ended in the red. The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

SBI not rushing towards bankruptcy code due to lack of ecosystem-The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

SBI (The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions)
The State Bank of India has not been "rushing towards" the new Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) to resolve cases of defaults as the entire ecosystem required for the new law has not so far been fully created, its chairperson Arundhati Bhattachrya said on Tuesday.

"The banking sector has in one voice asked for the Bankruptcy Code. As the country matures and evolves, it is necessary to have a judicial framework for orderly resolutions of assets. We cannot have makeshift structures that we were having earlier. So, we have been asking for a bankruptcy law and that has come. The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

"Now, the reason why we have not been rushing towards this is because with the law also you need to set up the ecosystem," she said.

Bhattacharya noted that first of all, the bench of National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) has to be created, people have to be deputed on the bench and next, one needs to create an information utility, which has not come yet. The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

She also cited the requirement of certified and registered resolution professionals to go with the resolution process. The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

"So, it has taken a little time for the law to be passed, rules to be notified and all the infrastructure to be created. Now, the ecosystem has begun getting created...it has been created, but not fully. And that is why we have seen that slowly the cases have been going on," she said.

The SBI chief said all the 12 stressed accounts, which were identified by the Reserve Bank of India, were receiving its attention and it hoped to see fast resolution for the settlement of dues through the IBC. The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

"All of the stressed accounts are receiving our attention. As and when it will come up in front of the NCLT, we will be making our representations. And we hope that these resolutions will happen as fast as it currently laid out in the law," she said.

Last month, the apex bank had identified 12 large accounts with exposure of more than Rs 5,000 crore and more than 60 per cent of which is recognised as NPAs. Banks have to refer to the IBC for these accounts. The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

Bhattacharya said the amount of provisioning that needs to be made on the 12 stressed accounts would "slightly" be above of what the bank would have made in any case.

"It will obviously hit the bottomline (of SBI), but not to that extent," she said.

She was in the city for the inauguration of bank's wealth management services and Bhattacharya said the bank is among the first PSU lender to introduce such services. It is targeting to have SBI Exclusif outlets in 13 centres in the country in the current financial year. The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

RBS CEO Ross McEwan says the announcement is "an important step forward in resolving one of the most significant legacy matters facing RBS." The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

McEwan has been at pains in recent months to insist RBS has put its legacy issues behind it. The bank was bailed out at the height of the financial crisis and is now owned by the British taxpayer.

"This settlement is a stark reminder of what happened to this bank before the financial crisis, and the heavy price paid for its pursuit of global ambitions," McEwan said.

Under the settlement, RBS will pay $5.5 billion, but be reimbursed for $754 million under indemnification agreements with third parties. The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

FED WATCH: Investors were refraining from making big moves ahead of Federal Reserve chair Janet Yellen's testimony before the U.S. Congress on Wednesday and Thursday. Explaining the objective of the proposed merger between the financial services majors Shriram Group and IDFC Group, Shriram Group Chairman Ajay Piramal on Monday said both the organisations have lot of complementarities. Two groups had already announced that the boards of Shriram Group and IDFC entered into an exclusivity arrangement for 90 days to jointly explore the possibility of merger. Both the groups want to deliver to the customer something which was not done before," Piramal told BTVi in an interview. He said the Group is serving millions of customers who till now had not been any banking experience while the products and the services which IDFC brings in to that will be unique.  Asked on the rationale for keeping Shriram Transport out of the proposed merger, IDFC Bank's MD and CEO Rajiv Lall told BTVi: "The relative sizes of the Shriram Transport and the bank are such that combining the two at once would have created difficult challenges, both regulatory and financial point of view." According to Lall, Shriram Transport will operate as an independent NBFC.
