Indian equities markets traded on a flat-to-negative note during the mid-afternoon trade session on Tuesday as selling pressure was witnessed in Teck (technology, media and entertainment), telecom and IT (information technology) stocks. Besides, broadly negative Asian indices and caution ahead of derivatives expiry subdued investors' sentiments. The key indices, which opened on a flat note, traded marginally in the red on the back of profit booking. The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

The CNX Nifty faced resistance at higher levels and traded with sideways sentiments due to profit booking. IT sector stocks faced resistance at higher levels, while banking, pharma, auto, oil-gas and FMCG (fast moving consumer goods) stocks traded with mixed sentiments due to profit booking. However, textile, aviation, media-entertainment and cement stocks traded with firm sentiments due to buying support, although power sector stocks traded with bearish sentiments.

Jio was launched on September 5 last year. In only 170 days we have crossed the 100 million customer mark. This achievement is of India and Indians, Ambani told the media. He said that on an average Jio added seven customers on its network every second. This is an unprecedented level of acceptance of any technology company anywhere in the world. Ambani said that prior to the launch of Reliance Jio, India was ranked 150th in terms of data penetration. It was now at number one. Last month, Jio users have consumed 100 crore gigabytes of data. Ambani said by the end of 2017, 99% of the country's population will be covered by the network with its presence in nearly all cities, towns and villages. He pointed out that the company has doubled its 4G stations as compared to its competitors. Announcing free user benefits for another 12 months under a cost-effective membership plan, Jio's latest offerings are expected to stiffen the competition further in the telecom sector.  Under Jio prime membership plan, the users can become members for a full year for a nominal one-time fee of Rs99. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI)  (The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions)
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Monday said the traditional banks needed to evolve into new-age digital banks to remain operational as financial technology (FinTech) lending companies were emerging fast as alternative source for the micro-small medium enterprises (MSMEs). The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

"The age of FinTech is here and for the incumbent banks there is no time to lose. The banks that do not quickly convert in to a new-age digital bank run the risk of becoming history," RBI Deputy Governor S.S. Mundra said. The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

He was addressing the inaugural NAMCABS (National Mission for Capacity Building of Bankers for financing MSME Sector) seminar organised by College of Agricultural Banking here. The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

"FinTech lending companies and the market place based lending, thus, have an underlying potential to emerge as an alternative source of finance for the small businesses," Mundra said.

He said that the banks must view the success of FinTech ecosystem as an opportunity and not as a threat. The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

"The FinTech companies have leveraged on growing technological advances and pervasiveness of smartphones and have targeted niches in small and medium enterprise (SME) lending to bridge the funding gap for small businesses with innovative and flexible credit products," he added. The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

Potentially, the MSME borrowers can apply online in minutes, select desired repayment terms and receive funds in their bank accounts within 2-3 days with minimal hassle, Mundra said.

"There are few documentation requirements, very quick turnaround time and flexible loan sizes and tenors," he said. The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

As per the International Financial Corporation (IFC), a funding gap of $2.1-2.6 trillion exists for all formal and informal MSMEs in emerging markets alone, which is equivalent to 30% to 36% of current outstanding MSME credit, he added. The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

Corporate bonds to fill void as government cuts borrowing: SEBI -The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

21 February 2017

As the government has been reducing its borrowing programme, the vacuum is going to be filled by corporate bonds, a senior SEBI official said on Tuesday. The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

"As the Centre's borrowing programme is going to come down, the space is going to be taken over by corporate bonds," Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) Member G. Mahalingam said here.

"As the government is going to be more and more oriented towards fiscal rectitude, we talked a lot about political lack of homogeneity in thought. The previous government left with a fiscal target of 3.2 per cent and this government took over with the same fiscal target in mind," he said at a conference on bond market organised by Assocham. The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

Mahalingam said the bond market today is developing not simply only on its own but also because the government has yielded a lot of space to the bonds. The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

"The government was borrowing around Rs 5.80 lakh crore just a couple of years back. The government now is budgeting to borrow just about Rs 3.48 lakh crore. Where does this Rs 2 lakh crore space get filled up? This is where the corporate bond market has to play a very important role," said the official of India's capital markets regulator. The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is reducing both SLR (statutory liquidity ratio) and Held-to-Maturity Security portfolio of the bank's overall portfolio. The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

"All this is going to augur very well for the corporate bond market," he added.

A study prepared by CRISIL and Assocham said that despite a string of measures taken over many years, the corporate bond market in India remains shallow compared with government securities, leave alone equities. The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

"Chandrasekaran chaired his first Board meeting as Chairman of Tata Sons Ltd," said the principal investment holding firm in a statement here. The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

Tata, 79, returned to head the holding firm as an interim Chairman after its previous Chairman Cyrus Mistry, 48, was sacked on October 24, leading to a bitter boardroom battle in the country's largest corporate house, with over 100 operating firms. The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

"I welcome Chandra, who has successfully displayed his leadership in his career at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). I am sure he will bring considerable value to his leadership role in the Tata Group in the years ahead," said Tata on the occasion. The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

Chandrasekaran, 54, was the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director of the Indian IT bellwether (TCS) since 2009 prior to his appointment on January 12 to head the holding firm of the $104-billion Tata Group. The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

"In my new role, I will focus on three strategic priorities: bring the group closer to leverage its collective strength; reinforce a leader's mindset among the operating firms and drive their operating performances across the group; bring greater rigour to our capital allocation policies and deliver superior returns to our shareholders," asserted Chandrasekaran. The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

Chandrasekaran's first Board meeting follows his appointment as Chairman of group operating companies, including Tata Power, Tata Motors, Tata Steel and TCS.

"I look forward to working with colleagues, management teams and Boards of the companies towards achieving these goals," said Chandrasekaran in the statement.

Noting that it was an honour to lead the Tata Group on the eve of its 150th anniversary, the new Chairman said the Group occupied a unique place in the hearts and minds of millions of Indians and has an important presence the world over. The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

Yahoo Salvages Verizon Deal With $350 Million Discount -The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

Yahoo (The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions)

Yahoo is taking a $350 million hit on its previously announced $4.8 billion sale to Verizon in a concession for security lapses that exposed personal information stored in more than 1 billion Yahoo user accounts.

The revised agreement announced Tuesday eases investor worries that Verizon Communications Inc. would demand a discount of at least $1 billion or cancel the deal entirely. The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

The hacking bombshells, disclosed after the two companies agreed on a sale, represent the two biggest security breaches in internet history. The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

Under the amended deal, Yahoo will be responsible for 50 percent of any cash liabilities incurred following the closing related to government investigations and lawsuits related to the breaches. Liabilities arising from shareholder lawsuits and SEC investigations will continue to be the responsibility of Yahoo. The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

"The amended terms of the agreement provide a fair and favorable outcome for shareholders," said Marni Walden, Verizon executive vice president and president of product innovation and new businesses. "It provides protections for both sides and delivers a clear path to close the transaction in the second quarter." The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

The security breaches raised concerns that people might decrease their usage of Yahoo email and other digital services that Verizon is buying. A smaller audience makes Yahoo's services less valuable because it reduces the opportunities to show ads — the main reason that Verizon struck the deal seven months ago. The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

Yahoo has maintained that its users have remained loyal, despite any mistrust that might have been caused by its lax security and the lengthy delay in discovering and disclosing the hacks. The separate attacks occurred in 2013 and 2014; Yahoo disclosed them this past September and December. The Total Investment & Insurance Solutions

Avoiding an even larger reduction in the deal value represents a small victory for Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer, who had already been under fire on Wall Street for her inability to turn around the company and then for the humiliating security lapses that came under her watch.

Verizon's willingness to accept some of the lingering risks from Yahoo's security breaches underscores the wireless carrier's desire to become a bigger player in the digital advertising market. Google and Facebook currently dominate, but Verizon believes there's room to grow.

Because most people already have smartphones, wireless carriers such as Verizon have turned to price cuts and promotions to lure customers from each other. Under pressure, Verizon even restored unlimited data plans this month, robbing it of revenue from monster-size data plans.

Instead, Verizon is trying to make money off the hours people spend gazing at their phones. It bought AOL for $4.4 billion in 2015 for its advertising technology. Verizon now wants to bolster that with Yahoo's technology, as well as its more than 1 billion users and popular websites devoted to sports, finance, entertainment and news.
